| Description: | Sports are a critical means of ensuring optimal cardiovascular, cerebrovascular, and cognitive aging. However sports also involves risk of trauma to the nervous system. Sports neurology has grown as a field in order to minimize neurological disability in those engaging in sports. Most recently, concern has grown around chronic recurrent traumatic brain injury as a risk factor for Alzheimer's as well as a unique neurodegenerative disorder- chronic traumatic encephalopathy. This and other neurological disorders of athletic activities will be described and their management outlined. |
