Participants should be familiar with the assessment and acute management of patients with spinal cord injury, including functional classification of patients using the American Spinal Injury Association Impairment Scale; understand potential mechanisms for neural repair and motor rehabilitation; be familiar with management of autonomic dysfunction; recognize patterns of SCI resulting from modern warfare; be able to address sexual function needs of patients with SCI; and be able to support psychological adjustments needed for societal reintegration.
