Participants should be able to discuss issues related to the diagnosis of vascular dementia and its overlap with dementia related to nonvascular causes; discuss the epidemiology of and current treatment strategies for VCI and dementia; describe developments designed to provide a uniform approach to the assessment of patients with VCI and dementia; and discuss new efforts to understand the mechanisms of VCI and dementia, as well as ongoing and future research into its prevention and treatment.
