Undergraduate Education Subcommittee

The Undergraduate Education Subcommittee (UES) develops recommendations for policies and activities related to undergraduate education and is charged with monitoring medical student education in neurology and making suggestions for improvement.

Job Description

Responsibilities

• Attend two meetings each year, including one held during the AAN Annual Meeting.
• Maintain and update the Neurology Clerkship Core Curriculum on a five-year rotation between UES and the Consortium of Neurology Clerkship Directors.
• Support, evaluate, and measure the success of the Student Interest Group in Neurology (SIGN) program which reaches out to medical students and introduces them to the field of neurology.
• Offer the following scholarships for medical students: Medical Student Scholarship to the Annual Meeting, Visiting Medical Student Scholar, and Medical Student Prize for Excellence in Neurology.
• Oversee neurology education programs such as Student Interest Group in Neurology (SIGN) meeting, Clerkship and Program Directors Conference, and other new offerings at the Annual Meeting.
• Oversee neurology tools and resources such as the Clerkship and SIGN Directory and other new offerings.
• Support the Consortium of Neurology Clerkship Directors and its activities.
• Serve on ad hoc work groups as assigned.

Selection/Appointment

Appointed by the AAN President Elect.

Meeting Schedule

• Spring meeting to review the status of Subcommittee projects (90 minutes - Virtual)
• Fall meeting to review the status of Subcommittee projects (full day - in person)

Estimated Time Commitment

One to two hours per month plus meetings and conference calls as needed.

Committee Composition

The UES includes15 voting members, including the following:

• Two to three medical students
• One to two residents
• One representative from the Consortium of Neurology Clerkship Directors
• One representative from the child neurology specialty
