Apply to Serve on an AAN Committee or Subcommittee
The AAN offers many opportunities to get involved, including participating in a committee or work group. Getting involved will provide you the resources to help advance your career and connect with neurology professionals with similar interests and career stages.
For virtual meetings, all committee and subcommittee members will be expected to connect to the meeting via Zoom to interact with all attendees. In consideration of the opportunity to serve, volunteer leaders agree to important Academy Policies for Volunteer Leaders.
Inclusive Leadership Commitments of Board Members and Volunteers
Members of the Boards of Directors and all AAN volunteers will adhere to the following commitments:
- Awareness: Strive to understand personal bias and develop systems to mitigate its impact.
- Importance: Embrace the necessity of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) for the AAN and our profession. Accept that the pursuit of DEI is not a destination, but a journey with bumps along the way. Share both successes and challenges with others.
- Courage: Demonstrate inclusive leadership and adhere to guiding principles of the AAN's Position Statement on DEI. Act when needed to hold others in the organization accountable.
- Collaboration: Support and promote collaboration among diverse individuals across the AAN.
- Respect: Acknowledge differences as a strength and champion inclusive language and actions in all relevant proceedings and practices.

Your participation via our Zoom platform requires a minimum broadband connection of 2 Mbps download and upload. Meetings will be held according to US time zones, so please consider whether you are able to participate during US work hours.
Application Information
It is necessary to complete an application to be considered for committee vacancies for the 2025-2027 presidential term. If you would like to change your previous committee and subcommittee selections, please contact Karen Kasmirski at kkasmirski@aan.com.

What is an Academy Committee?
An Academy committee is a group of persons convened for an indefinite period to accomplish a core Academy purpose.
- The Board of Directors establishes and terminates committees.
- All committees report directly to the Board of Directors.
- Committees will ideally have an odd number of members and will usually have five to seventeen members.
- Committees will have no more than two face-to-face meetings each year and may have an additional meeting during the Annual Meeting. However, exceptions may be authorized by the President in consultation with the Chief Executive Officer.
What is an Academy Subcommittee?
A subcommittee is group of persons convened for an indefinite period to accomplish a specific committee purpose.
- The Board of Directors establishes and terminates subcommittees.
- The President, after consulting the chair of the parent committee, appoints the chair and members of each subcommittee.
- All subcommittees report to the parent committee.
- Subcommittees will ideally have an odd number of members and will usually have five to fifteen members appointed for the same term as committee members..
- Subcommittees will have no more than one face-to-face meeting each year and may have an additional face-to-face meeting during the Annual Meeting. However, exceptions may be authorized by the President in consultation with the Chief Executive Officer.
