Q: How do I become a member of the AAN?
A: To apply for American Academy of Neurology membership, complete the Membership Application. Answer the required questions to proceed to the correct membership application for you. Then, complete the required fields, membership dues payment via credit card, or choose to download an invoice and mail in a check.
Your application will be reviewed within two business days. We may email you directly if more information is required to process your application. Otherwise, you will receive a welcome email with a notice of your approved application.

Q: How do I renew my AAN membership?
A: Renewing is quick and easy to do online in your AAN Member Profile. Log in with your AAN ID (or email address) and password and click on the "Subscriptions" tab to renew via credit card or to download an invoice to provide to your financial department. We can also assist with renewals over the phone at (800) 879-1960 or (612) 928-6000.
Q: Where is my dues receipt?
A: Upon renewing your membership, you will receive an email confirmation from AAN Member Services. Dues receipts can be downloaded from the "Orders" tab within the AAN Member Profile.
Q: I want to apply for AAN membership, but none of the categories fit my current situation. Can I still join?

Q: Can international medical graduates practicing in the United States apply for Physician Affiliate membership with AAN?
A: Absolutely. International medical graduates who are currently practicing in the United States in fields related to neurology are eligible for Physician Affiliate membership with the AAN. Licensed physicians must apply for either neurologist or physician affiliate membership and do not qualify for non-physician memberships.
Q: When will my membership expire?
A: Neurologist, Physician Affiliate, Researcher, Advanced Practice Provider, and Business Administrator memberships run on a calendar year dues cycle, valid from January 1 through December 31.
Student, Intern, and Junior memberships run on an academic cycle, valid from July 1 through June 30.
Q: I'm a Junior member and my training program is ending this spring. Is there anything I need to do to ensure my benefits don't lapse?
A: On July 1, your account will transition automatically to a 6-month complimentary online membership that will be valid until December 31. Then, the AAN will notify you once you are eligible to renew for the upcoming calendar year.
Q: How do I become a FAAN?
A: AAN Fellow status acknowledges exemplary work and achievements in the neurosciences, the clinical practice of neurology, or academic/administrative neurology, in the AAN, and in your community. AAN members may review their qualifications status in their Member Profile, and review application requirements. The AAN begins tracking qualifications after residency training concludes.

A: The AAN offers a free Senior membership. You may be eligible if you have been a member for five years or more, and are fully retired, disabled, or are working less than 15 hours per week of professional activity. Learn more or Apply.
