Partipants should be familiar with the global burden of stroke as one of the neurological diseases with a major global burden for disability and mortality, the disparity that exists in terms of resources for acute treatment and rehabilitation services and outcomes across the globe and the initiatives that are taking place to close the gap between high income countries and low and middle income countries (LMICs) including in countries in the Sub-Saharan Africa region where the needs are acute.
