Health Care Disparities
By the end of this course comprising three lectures, using exemplary cases or scenarios, participants should be able to: Describe the concepts of health equity, health disparities, vulnerable and underserved populations, social justice, implicit bias, structural racism, and cultural sensitivity; List prevailing major disparities in neurology and promising avenues to bridge them; Appreciate the roles that training and research can play in overcoming neurological disparities; Appreciate that reduction of neurological disparities will require greater emphasis on non-medical (social) determinants of health; Recognize importance of the health system as well as the community and social context as modifiable targets to address brain health equity challenges; Appreciate the need for workforce diversity to address health inequities and neurological disparities; Understand the potential contributions of advocacy and leadership to bridging neurological disparities
