Whether it is your first job, or a move to a new Academic Neurology position, negotiation is an important skill to help you find the right job for you.  We will highlight current academic salary benchmarks and contacts.  We will discuss the specific career paths in an Academic Department, including clinical, clinical-educator, clinical-research, and research tracks. We will focus on conversations including negotiating “protected time”, productivity bonuses, relocation costs, and the timeline for applications.  Negotiating for yourself can be difficult, but it is crucial to both your long-term job satisfaction and helps set clear expectations for both you and your employer.  Other ways to support your career, such as access to space, equipment, mentors, research coordinators, networking opportunities and available infrastructure (i.e., statistical support, biobanks, training opportunities available for grant writing and formal coursework) will help you develop the perfect job for YOU. Some perils and pitfalls of negotiation will also be discussed in this interactive and open format.
