Health Care Disparities
Attendees should be able to recognize disparities in care for specific neurologic conditions, and how to modify practice to promote neurologic health equity.
Racism is a system that unfairly disadvantages some individuals and communities and benefits other individuals and communities. It consists of structures, policies, practices and norms, including those that directly impact health outcomes and wellbeing. The effects of racism on health outcomes are driven by differences in social determinants of health (SDOH) risk factors, with direct physiological impact also playing a role. This talk will discuss the interaction of racism and SDOH at different socio-ecological levels of influence in the context of the stroke patient.
