Education, Research, and Methodology
Neurology as a discipline has a long tradition of teaching. Despite this strong tradition of teaching and education leadership excellence, it is increasingly difficult for neurology faculty to participate in direct teaching, particularly core activities that decrease or have no clinical or research productivity. Our observation is that faculty members are declining participation in teaching activities in greater and greater numbers, despite an expressed desire to teach. This raises a significant concern for the neurology education community and departmental leadership where it is increasingly challenging to meet core UME and GME teaching commitments. We would like to share one example of a system used to promote sustainable teaching and stimulate a discussion about best practices and a range of approaches to support the educational mission in neurology departments.
