The numerator: Patients who have had treatment for contributing behavioral & psychiatric symptoms, hearing & vision deficits, sleep disturbances, neurologic diseases, OR medical illnesses following a comprehensive neuropsychological assessment* to determine potential contributing factors

The denominator: patients diagnosed with mild cognitive impairment (MCI)

Exclusions are removed from the denominator:

  • Prior declines or is not adherent to treatment for contributing factor

Key Phrases

Examples of key phrases you could use to meet the measure include:

  • Patient does not have any contributing behavioral health [OR hearing and vision deficits, sleep disturbances, neurologic diseases, OR medical illnesses] factor identified.
  • Patient was referred to a specialist for further treatment. (For example, psychiatry, psychology, ENT, sleep specialist, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy)
  • Patient is receiving treatment for behavioral and psychiatric symptoms [OR hearing and vision deficits, sleep disturbances, neurologic diseases, OR medical illnesses].

Measure Calculation Example

Dr. Pushka has office encounters for 100 patients between January 1 and December 31 with patients diagnosed with MCI.  This is the denominator 

Dr. Pushka determined 41 patients did not have a contributing factor. Dr. Pushka had 11 patients who were treated or referred for treatment for a contributing factor. These 52 patients (41+11) meet the numerator. 

Three patients declined treatment for a contributing factor (e.g., patient declined referral to psychiatry and sleep specialist. These three patients are removed from the denominator as exclusions.

Quality of patient care = 52/(100-3). Dr. Pushka has a score of 53.6% for this measure.
