Fatigue Screening and Follow-Up for Patients with Multiple sclerosis (MS)

Measure purpose: Ensure patients are routinely screened for fatigue, and if screening positive appropriate follow-up care occurs.  

The numerator: Patients screened for fatigue in the past 12 months, and if screening positive, patients had appropriate follow-up care.

the denominator: patients with a diagnosis of MS

Exclusions are removed from the denominator for: 

  • Patient unable to complete fatigue screening on date of encounter
  • Patient refuses or declines on date of encounter

Measure Calculation Example

Dr. Wiesman saw 100 patients between January 1 and December 31 with a diagnosis of MS. This is the denominator.

Dr. Wiesman documented three patients declined or were unable to complete screening on the date of the encounter meeting exclusion requirements.

Of the 97 remaining patients, Dr. Wiesman documented fatigue screening and no need for follow-up for 17 patients. She documented positive screenings and follow-up for 9 patients. The inumerator is 26 (17+9).

Quality of patient care = (17+9)/(100-3). Dr. Wiesman has a score of 26.8% for this measure.
