Molecular testing in accordance with World Health Organization classification of tumors of the Central Nervous System

Measure purpose: Increase rates of molecular testing.

The numerator: patients with molecular testing performed in accordance with most recent WHO classification flow

The denominator: all patients >18 years and older who have had an initial resection or biopsy of grade II-IV glioma.

Exclusion is removed from the denominator:

  • Patients with insufficient tissue sample for molecular testing.

Measure Calculation Example

Dr. Agrawal has 100 patients age 18 and older between January 1 and December 31 that had an initial resection or biopsy of grade II-IV glioma. This is the denominator.

Twelve patients had an insufficient tissue sample for molecular testing. These patients are excluded from the denominator.

Of the now 88 patients that still qualify for this measure, 27 had molecular testing performed in accordance with the most recent WHO classification flow.  This is the numerator.

Quality of patient care = 27/(100-12). Dr. Agrawal has a score of 30.7% for this measure.
