Measure Calculation Example

Dr. Zhang sees 100 patients between January 1 and December 31 diagnosed with MS. This is the denominator. Six patients decline to complete a quality of life instrument and three patients have cognitive impairments that prevent them from completing a quality of life instrument. These nine (6+3) patients are removed from the denominator as exclusions.

Of the 91 remaining patients, 21 had quality of life scores that were maintained or improved during the 12-month measurement period.  This is the numerator.

Quality of patient care = 21/91. Dr. Zhang has a score of 23% for this measure.
