About

Neuroscience Course directors are dedicated educators who devote considerable time and energy to provide a valuable educational experience. Such experiences are often the first exposure of students to the field of neurology. This award recognizes individuals who have developed a robust educational program for pre-clerkship medical students. Special consideration will be given to those individuals who demonstrate the following: 

  1. Use of novel technologies and educational strategies

  1. Employment of a variety of teaching methods

  1. Innovative ways to engage medical students

  1. Course success; and/or that their program has contributed to increasing the number of students interested in post-graduate training in neurology

Timeline

  • Applications open: June 25, 2024
  • Applications close: October 31, 2024, at 11:59 p.m. CT

Benefits  

A qualified course director or a pair of co-directors will be selected annually to receive a certificate of recognition from the AAN. If no nominations are viewed as qualified by the selection committee, no award will be given that year. 

Eligibility  

  • Nominees must be an active AAN member, which is defined as a member who is in good standing with their current dues. Posthumous nominations will not be accepted. 

  • Nominees must be current neuroscience course directors, co-directors, associate directors, or assistant directors who have been in the position for at least one year.  

  • Priority may be given to members who have not previously received a Director Award (program, clerkship, or neuroscience course).  

  • Only one nomination per institution will be accepted. Nominations are open to course co-directors if responsibilities are shared. In instances where universities have more than one campus, one nomination per campus will be accepted.

  • Confirmation of support from faculty or supervisor  

  • Confirmation of support from the department chair, dean or dean’s representative (e.g., assistant/associate dean for faculty affairs, etc.)  

  • Nominee Curriculum Vitae (CV)
